SIM DOSAGE Tool    from Denovo

v0.94(beta) – Document updated 12th August 2003

This tool was developed under WIN98SE. There may well be issues with other operating systems that I am not aware of. Please report any bugs or suggestions for improvements to me at GraemeDenovo@aol.com

1)             Bugs and problems information

a)                   I have had a few reports of a failure to install when certain system files are to be updated, and a reboot is required. Following the reboot, no files have been installed or updated. I have not yet been able to reproduce this, so the only current solution is to install the back-formed v0.93.5

This version now has all the functionality of v0.94, except that the breeding file is not subdivided and consequently searches by horse ID take longer for higher IDs

b)                   The original v0.94 release has a bug whereby, once the first-used breeding file has been updated, the app will subdivide the new file every time it is launched

Download the executable v0.94.2 and overwrite the previous executable version, and this bug will be fixed. You can rename the new file back to v0.94 if you wish. The file version can be viewed under the File Properties – Version – Internal Name

2)         SIM Dosage

I know nothing really about sires and breeding, so I have learnt about the dosage system with interest. However, compiling the dosages via Del Mar’s site is rather slow and tedious, so I formulated the idea of an application to perform this function automatically. Whilst it is my intention to develop this application further to extend to a 4-generation lineage and dosage calculation, it occurred to me that Mike indeed only provides a full lineage of 3-generations in the SIM, and that perhaps this was more relevant in the game. Indeed, as we have no dam information in the SIM, just as it is absolutely impossible to derive the 4th generation dam’s-dam-damsire, it is also impossible to derive the sire’s-dam-damsire from the information contained in the SIM alone. To complete this requirement will require multiple effort from people using this tool to generate a separate database once the 4-generation version is completed.

So for the time being here is the 3-gen version.  The sire may contribute 8 points, each of the 2nd generation sires 4 points, and the 3rd generation sires 2 points, giving a maximum dosage point total of 24. CD & DI are calculated as in the conventional version.

3)         Installation

Just run the downloaded file from Lobo’s site, and everything should install automatically.

The installation places a ChefTable and a SireList in the folder C:\ENR. This is where we store the breeding.txt file for use with the SuperSimSearcher, and the SimDosage tool uses breeding.txt to show the lineage and dosage for any current SIM horse by ID no.

So to complete the SimDosage tool installation, you need the latest copy of the breeding file (breeding.zip) from Lobo’s site < www.loboblanco.net/simtools.htm > unzipped into C:\ENR, and to get used to downloading subsequent weekly replacements to maintain current information.

Each time the SimDosage tool is started and detects a new breeding file, it subdivides it to provide quicker access to the lineages.

4)         Using the application

On the startup screen, simply enter the horse ID no and click GO (or press return) to obtain the lineage and dosage for any current SIM horse.

Clicking on the < Hypo Mate > button brings up the sub-form for entering any lineage of interest. Leaving a field blank on this form will not overwrite that position in the lineage on the main form.

Make sure you get your spellings right the way the SIM has them – paying attention to spaces, full stops and country tags (in brackets) or the horse will not be picked up.

5)         Limitations

The information on current SIM horses is as accurate as your copy of the breeding.txt

The Sire List DOES contain incomplete information as well as inaccurate information and likely missing information - although I think it is fair to say that the vast majority of information IS correct.

I am intending to make it my mission to continue to make the Sire List as accurate as I can, and in this respect, if you are using this application and find it useful, it would be greatly appreciated if you could provide me with corrections and additions as you come across them.  This way they can be circulated to all users.

Your help will be appreciated, and your feedback gratefully received.
